the default translates to:

   http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/1/i386/os/

and your yum.conf entry for the mirror needs to point to a dir that has
a headers/ dir, so you might want to use:
 http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/1/i386/os/

for your yum.conf entry.
