Allo, I also use a 3c905 in an older motherboard, and had similar issues. What resolved it for me was to turn off P&P in BIOS, install FC1, then reenabled the P&P. FWIW, I booted from CD using the Boot ISO image, and used NFS to install, though I doubt that made any difference. Hope that helps.
