One reason can be an incorrectly set up k3bsetup2. With the package from rpm.livna.org or fedora.us, k3bsetup2 is in the "More System Tools" and KDE Control Centre "System Administration" menu. Btw, you don't need to su to root permanently to set up k3b. The menu entries would run "kdesu" for the k3bsetup session. --
