FWIW:  man -k or apropos are your friend.
Some of the services listed by "chkconfig --list" and  "service --status-all"
do not have man pages, or descriptions that can be found with man -k. IMO this 
is a bug, check your favorite service.

 $ apropos smart
 ....
 smartctl             (8)  - Control and Monitor Utility for SMART Disks
 smartd               (8)  - SMART Disk Monitoring Daemon
 smartd.conf [smartd] (5)  - SMART Disk Monitoring Daemon Configuration File - smartmontools-5.21

 DESCRIPTION
       smartd  is  a  daemon  that  monitors the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and
       Reporting Technology (SMART) system built into  many  ATA-3  and  later
