Trying to setup my soundcard using sndconfig and it tells me that a es1370 card was detected module es1370 but it will not play a test sound and then tells me Auto detection of the soundcard did not work....Can anyone tell me how I overcome this ??..I know the card is connected okYou might have better luck with 'redhat-config-soundcard' (instead of sndconfig). You might also do an lsmod and rmmod any modules that are related to sound.
as it works in Mandrake and Debian..
I take it you have checked the mixer to make sure the volume is not low or muted?

$ rpm -qf `which lsmod` modutils-2.4.25-13
A system without modutils installed would be curious. Be sure you are root when invoking lsmod, rmmod or modprobe.
Which soundcard do you have? Is it an ISA or PCI card? Be sure to have "PnP OS no" in system BIOS. What does syslog report to /var/log/messages?
Alexander
The output from /var/log/message is.....
Jan 25 13:06:31 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service- 0-1
Jan 25 13:07:02 localhost last message repeated 2 times
Jan 25 13:07:17 localhost last message repeated 5 times
The card is a pci and has worked ok on r/h9 ,Mandrake and Debian....
