Problem solved.
I got an email from Diego from that web site.
He mentioned that my acpi=on was in the wrong place in grub.conf.

It should be on the same line as the kerned parameters:
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi rhgb
acpi=on
