I have been using various versions of Red Hat, and now, Fedora Core, for
a few years now, and I will be looking forward to the answer to this
problem as well, as I have seen it on my system. In my case, I am using
an Iomega 52x24x52x External USB2 CDRW drive.

If I am not on the the directory of the drive somewhere then the command:
eject cdrom
or
eject cdrom1
will give the result of unmount and ejecting it, without be su
