My machine has 2 GB of RAM and the "free" command shows the following usage: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 2064448 885924 1178524 0 201544 338088 -/+ buffers/cache: 346292 1718156 Swap: 2048276 0 2048276 Linux happily eats up 885 MB of which about 540 Mb is for buffers and cache. Which is fine with me because it keeps my swap usage at zero ;-) --Rick
