I have three paperweights that used to be Acer cdrom drives, from
installing Fedora. I'm afraid the mind boggling stupidity of using
the IDE reset command to wipe the drives firmware is not restricted
to LG drives.

I'm waiting for a response from Acer's service line, but its been
several weeks, so I'm not holding out a lot of hope.

There is a process documented on the LG website for reloading
the firmware into a wiped LG, but so far other culprits seem to
be still in denial.

Post the wipe, the drive does not respond to the bios probe,
will not open its drive tray in response to the front panel button
and its front panel LED flicks on on power up, then stays off.

Recognise the symptoms?

Harry
