  I had similar problem when I ran out of disk space while upgrading kde.
kde reads them from '/var/lib/menu/kde/Applications' and there are only
symlinks, so I think it had something to do with the post-install script
in some kde RPM. Check the postinstall scripts in the packages... I can't
tell you how to fix it, since I upgraded to the next version and all was
fine...
