xcdroast does not like DVD+R drives

OK to solve my DVD writing problems I installed xcdroast-0.98a14-2 that
comes with Fedora Core 1.

I installed the cdrecord-prodvd-2.01a21-i686-pc-linux-gnu plugin and the
security key as directed on the website.

xcdroast detects the drive fine as a "RICOH DVD+RW MP5240" and allows me
to select the 4.7GB media.

1) Blanking the DVD+RW it tells me "cdrecord.prodvd: Cannot blank with
non Ricoh based drive".

2) Trying to write some files to the DVD it tells me "A CD-R/RW is
required in the CD-Writer before a session can be mastered. Please
insert a CD-R/RW and try again". Does this mean it is still only able
to do minus (-) media?

Looks like it is back to M$ Windows to do my backups *sigh*
