If you can't find that README file, you can get it from here.

Basically you need to edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config file to allow the
use of the new driver you installed.

So what you need to do, is to replace the 'nv' in that file to 'nvidia'.
And remove the DRI stuff. (There is alot more that can be modified but
that depends on your system and Graphics board.
