a short progress report on my travels this far, getting vmware workstation up and running on FC1. no, i'm not done but i thought i'd share if anyone else wanted to try this. starting with the newest vmware WS 4.0.5, on a system running kernel 2.6.0-test10, first, following the instructions, i made sure that the kernel has: * RTC support * parallel port support as a *module* next, install the WS rpm, and edit /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl, and, because of 2.6 kernel, "/proc/ksyms" -> "/proc/kallsyms". in addition, because of 2.6 kernel, download a tarball of vmware updates: http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/vmware-any-any-update43.tar.gz, unload and run "runme.pl", which will do a little patching and ask if you want to continue on and run "vmware-config.pl", which i did. that's as far as i got right now, but it's worth noting that i didn't have to hack any more than this. no other changes to /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl, and no need to change the CC variable to use the older compiler. so, as soon as i pull a copy of win2k out of storage, it's on to "/usr/bin/vmware". thoughts? further advice? rday
