If under Gnome ... You are Out of Luck for now. The ability was included in Gnome 2.XX (something) but it has been disabled by redhat because it is very buggy, or at least that is what I have been told. Under KDE you can do it I believe by using the KDE Menu editor. To edit the menu in gnome you have to manually create/edit/delete the menu files on disk with a disk editor.
