here is some more information.

when i run usbview as root is responds with an error
message that says:
Can not open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices

Verify that you have USB compiled into your kernel,
have the USB core modules loaded, and have the
usbdevfs filesystem mounted.

how do i check all this?

i found out that i have no such file as
/proc/bus/usb/devices, not even the directory
/proc/bus/usb/

i tried to create one as root, but i was not allowed,
then i treid to chmod on the bus diorectory to then be
able to create a usb directory but chmod said:
operation not permitted.

help still needed and appreciated.
