Ah, no it isn't. It is very easy to change by either using the gconf
editor or from the command line. These will wrap. Each command is one
line. Below is the icon I use. You can of course change the icon to
anything you want.

gconftool-2 --set
/apps/panel/profiles/default/objects/main_menu/custom-icon -t bool true

gconftool-2 --type string --set
/apps/panel/profiles/default/objects/main_menu/custom-icon-file
/usr/share/pixmaps/gnome-logo-icon-transparent.png


Then restart the GNOME panel.
