Hi all, I have recently(6 days) installed Fedora Core 1 and was using xcdroast to cut a few Fedora CD's for my friends do my good deed of the week. The only problem is xcdroast hard locked my system 3 times. I am pretty sure it was xcdroast as that and evolution was open 2 times when it happened and 3rd time xcdroast and gnome-terminal nothing else. Seeing in /var/log/messages I see Nov 11 16:01:18 HellInc modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-97 This is around the time the hard lock up happened not sure though so I googled and lo and behold the first link is some problem with char-major-97 and xcdroast. [URL wrapped] http://www.google.com.my/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=char- major-97&btnG=Google+Search&meta= So put in an alias char-major-97 off in modules.conf dunno if that is going to help or not. Now I also see Nov 11 17:05:18 HellInc modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-188 First off where do I get this list as to what the heck is all the numerous char-major-*** for??? I had originally sent this mail Tuesday evening but it seems my machine froze up the moment I used xscreensaver to lock the screen after hitting send. This time xcdroast was NOT open. How can I diagnose what the *&*^ is going on here? If anybody is interested /var/log/messages has been put up here http://www.komnas.com/~adey/messages Thanks in advance, -- Arindam Dey The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.
