Clone External Display on Laptop at Higher Resolution IE When Docked.

I want to clone my laptop display to my external LCD when docked or 
hooked up to a similar monitor.

I cant find anything that really helps..

it's a hp ze4430us with a AGP 320M chip..

TV Out
External VGA connector <- which I wish to use.

I'm running the internal mon at 1024x768

and I would like to connect the external LCD monitor that can run up to 
1280x1024.

I've seen too many config's to clearly know what's going on so if some 
one has a similar setup or can point me to something that's accurate on 
how to do this I'd be most appreciative.
