Surprise: the 3rd CD had errors around 67%. I wiped it's surface clean with a soft cloth, tested it again, and now it passes the test. Question: what's on the 3rd CD around 60...70% that, if corrupted, makes "perl -pi -e 's/foo/bar/'" segfault?
