Random lockups while away

I was running fct2 yum upgraded to fct3 and then to fc1. I decided to do
a clean install to see how the installer had improved. I have a seperate
/home partition so I do this often. Since the fresh install, my computer
will lock up to the point where it won't respond even to ssh. I then have
to hard reboot. I have had problems with the 3d screensavers locking x in
the past and I have "blank screen only" selected for this reason. I have
found info in the /var/log/messages from when one of the lockups occured.
The computer was not being used. I was logged into gnome with a terminal
open, no programs running but fetchmail.

The hardware is a Abit KT7A-RAID with an athlon 800 and radeon 7200 32mb.

Any ideas?

thanks,
