i had the same problem "empty start here folder"
you should save the files before you execute
$ rm ~/.gnome2/vfolders/applications.vfolder-info # rm /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/default-modules*
# rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs --replacefiles gnome-vfs2-2.4.1.1.i386.rpm
logout/login
and i have no problems fc1-default-menu is ok start-here works again, no other nautilus problems, ...
