do you have a spare hdd you could put /var on?  my server has var mounted on 
its own own hdd. though i havent updarted it yet.  currently its on RH8  and 
due to be rebuit  it needs more hdd space as its running out fast.  but it 
shouldnt be a problem  if it has a seperate partition.
