Among other silliness, the network configuration also has a couple of warts:
httpd seems to be installed regardless of what packages I install. Having firmly unchecked 'webserver' on 3 repeated installs (with formats) httpd is still being installed.
1. With 2 NICs, I found it impossible to have only one activated at boot.
2. With 192.168.1.0 network, gateway was assumed to be 192.168.1.254. Bad assumption if using Linksys router.
Obviously, both fixes are trivial.
