LG CD-Rom drives and Fedora

After reading about the recent problems of Mandrake and LG CD-Rom drives
(http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/lgerrata.php3), I was wondering if
anyone knows if Fedora was/is/could be affected by the same problem?
Or the problem is something specific to things Mandrake add to the
kernel?
