In short:
edit /etc/mail/sendmail.mc m4 sendmail.mc > sendmail.cf restart sendmail

But beware... If you dont have the sendmail-cf package , it will fail without warnings... I struggled once with a machine when the only problem was the missing sendmail-cf files...
