Hi, I have look back at previous postings concerning a kernel panic after updating the kernel. when I boot it I get a VFS kernel panic error saying it cannot open root device LABEL=/ or 00:00. The above happens on the following kernels: 2.4.22-1.2135.nptl 2.6.0-1.104 I do indeed have initrd images for the above kernels; so what is the problem here? Something interesting: When the initrd images were being built I get the following: ******************************************************************** [root@matrix boot]# /sbin/mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.4.22-1.2135.nptl.img 2.4.22-1.2135.nptl copy from /lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2135.nptl/./kernel/fs/jbd/jbd.o(elf32-i386) to /tmp/initrd.TI4607/lib/jbd.o(elf32-i386) copy from /lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2135.nptl/./kernel/fs/ext3/ext3.o(elf32-i386) to /tmp/initrd.TI4607/lib/ext3.o(elf32-i386) ************************************************************************ Is that normal, the same happened with the 2.6 kernel? By the way, I first did am up2date to get the 2.6.0-1.104 kernel. Then I downloaded the 2.4.22-1.2135.nptl kernel and performed a "rpm -ivh --force" Thanks, Ernest L. Williams Jr. -- Ernest L.
