I am in trouble with FC1 instalation on COMPAQ PROLIANT 1600. Anaconda hungs after monitor probe. Novell 5 was running fine on this machine with no problems.

Try booting the first CD with "linux nousb"...

This isn't a new problem. I hit this in September last year. I have 11 Proliants 1600r/ML370s of various ages.

Redhat 7.2 installed perfectly on them all, but from 7.3 onwards I couldn't install on the 1600s. It hung just as you describe.

I searched the net and without finding anything put a bug into Redhat's Bugzilla. Not suprisingly several other people spotted the bug and commented. I did get feedback from one person quite recently who reported that if you boot into the Compaq management tools and disable the Broadcom Ethernet controller that is onboard the 1600 series it /should/ get past the problem.

The nousb option was suggested by Redhat themsleves but that made no difference for me.

No idea why annaconda doesn't like it but there you are. I haven't been able to try this as all my Proliants are in service right now but you could give it a try.

For reference the Bugzilla ID is:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=73713

Hope this helps,

Neil.
