When you installed did you do a standard dektop or workstation, or server or custom install? Have you been able to use the CD for anything else (i.e. music cds) are you able to mount the cdrom? The standard install should leave the CD auto mounting whenever a CD is inserted and if an autorun cd is inserted Fedora will ask if you want to run the software. Does any of this work? Unfortunately Fedora shipped with an error in the install new software program, but that really doesn't sound like the problem you're having. Please detail what steps you are taking to install KDE et al. Scott Scott, I did a workstation install with a few software additions (source). I disabled autorun during install. The CD does automount--an icon appears on the desktop if a I have a CD in the drive. I can copy from the CD in Nautilus,etc. Haven't tried burning anything yet. The only place I have noticed this problem is when trying to install software. The drive is a DVD/CD RW drive. The drive works ok in XP. When I try to install software I am using the GNOME ap for installing softare that is part of the desktop utilities. It lets me select the desired packages (looks same as the original installation) and then attempts to start the installation. Then I get a popup window with the message that it can't continue due to error which the log shows as "Can't open...." fstab: /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzo,ro 0 0 Thanks for the help.
