and that's precisely why the *sender* should do the line wrapping --
some MUAs can't handle it properly. sometimes, it's not a perfect
world, but it's pretty unreasonable to ask someone to switch MUAs
simply because you're too lazy to format your text, don't you think?
rday's rules of posting in a perfect world:
1) use meaningful subject lines
2) no HTML
3) no massive attachments to mailing lists
4) no top posting. and, really, "no" means "no".
5) wrap your text
6) remove all extraneous content. and don't repost a 100-line post
just so you can say, "i agree." that's really being a doofus.
and, finally, my latest pet peeve:
7) if you can, remove those idiotic, asinine, meaningless legalistic
auto-generated signatures that go on and on and tediously on -- you
know, the ones that start with:
"this email is the property of XYZ corporation, and is intended
solely for the recipient. if you get this email by accident,
drop everything you're doing -- even if it's delivering a baby or
holding someone's severed femoral artery closed -- and *immediately*,
like RIGHT FREAKING NOW!!!! securely discard the email and get back
to us, and let us know what happened.... blah blah blah"
yeah, like, *that's* going to happen. do i even need to point out
the irrelevance of a privacy disclaimer on something you're posting
to a *worldwide* mailing list?
i thought not. lord, sometimes i wonder what the world would be like
if lawyers actually had to do useful things for a living.
