Ok, that doesn't block anymore, so there is some progress.
However, it does not load any SCSI driver, so it can't find the
hard-drives. Since that system could use either aic7xxx or DAC960 (and
DAC fails, see my other message on the list), effectively i can't
install FC1 on that system.

Actually, a lot of modules fail to load if i use that boot image:

module(s) scsi_mod sd_mod sr_mod not found
module(s) agpgart e100 scsi_mod aic7xxx usbcore usb-uhci not found

If i try to use the drivers disk, that doesn't work either.
