eSATA errors

Hi

I have system running the 2.6.20 kernel, and I am trying to use an eSATA disk with it. The hardware in question is a 'NexStar-3' eSATA enclosure, and inside it is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750Gb SATA drive.

I am hooking this up to an ASUS M2N-MX motherboard using the SATA to eSATA bracket that comes with the enclosure.

When I boot up the machine the disk is recognized, but it immediately has device errors and 'slow to respond' errors. When I use fdisk to write a partition table it seems to give up entirely. Is this a known problem, or is there something I can try?

I am not subscribed to the mailing list so I would appreciate a CC on any replies.

Thanks,

Tom
