EasyTAG code and try to reason about what's happening, I will.
It would be interesting to see dmesg of reloading psmouse module after
touchpad freezes:
echo 1 > /sys/module/i8042/parameters/debug
rmmod psmouse
modprobe psmouse
BTW, what video driver are you using?
