[PATCH] mtd: Remove the last of the inter_module calls from mtd.

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

David before you removed the intermodule code from mtd
I had worked up a similar but slightly more comprehensive patch.
Unfortunately I got distracted before I could push it out
of my tree.

I now have a spare minute and it looks like there
is still some value in the remainder of my patch.
It makes the code some simpler and removes
the modular vs non-modular special case.

I have some concerns about the code size of symbol_request
as it is always expanded inline but someone else
can optimize that. Using it is a clear win for code
simplicity.

The rules for using weak symbols.
- You must refer to the symbol by name.
- You must pair symbol_get/symbol_put or their equivalents
to get the module counts right. For mtd I used
  symbol_request and symbol_put_addr.
- When using symbol_request you don't care what
module a symbol is in, as modprobe figures
that out for you, by looking in modules.symbols.
- The symbol must be exported from the module
  or you can't see it.

So very simply: modified the module probe routines
to call symbol_request, and later symbol_put_addr.

I modified the modules to export their probe routines.

Everywhere the inter_module code was killed.
