I've managed to transcribe the oops from the console which I've
attached. The output of ver_linux:

If some fields are empty or look unusual you may have an old version.
Compare to the current minimal requirements in Documentation/Changes.

I should note that I've build the .broken kernel with both gcc-4.1 and
4.0.3 as mentioned above. (I've build gcc-4.1 in ~/gcc41/bin).
The last kernel which worked fine on this laptop is 2.6.15.4 after that
I've switched to 2.6.16 which started to oops at reboot/shutdown.
