I take it that you are aware of a drive monitoring utility called
smartd? By querying the drive after a new powerup, you may be able to
extract usefull information about its health.

People having trouble with vz bouncing email to me should add the word
'online' between the 'verizon', and the dot which bypasses vz's
stupid bounce rules. I do use spamassassin too. :-)
