Interesting.  Usually, Oops occurs more often when built-in kernel. 

I still don't figure out where Oops occurs exactly.
Could you turn on CONFIG_SND_DEBUG if not enabled?

Also, possible to track down at which point of snd_ctl_open does it
happen?
