1) This boots on my laptop, so whatever caused the "reset and go back to Grub"
behavior in -rc1-mm1 and -rc1-mm2 has reseolved itself before I got far enough
on bisecting patches to track it down.

2) The strange "ppp traffic spins in kernel and kills keyboard" problem is still
here....
