but when I read that DVD on the original machine, the system is stuck,
no CTRL-ALT-DEL accepted, no keyboard input, no mouse, no CTRL-ALT-BKSP,
all blocked.
when I read the same DVD on the second machine, where I wrote it,
everything is fine.
when I boot the original machine with kernel-2.6.11 everything is fine
as well.
Fact: I can write a DVD on a machine with kernel-2.6.11, but I cannot
read that DVD in a machine with kernel-2.6.12, even worse: the system is
stuck.
There *may* be an issue there, I haven't had a chance to run it down, so
I didn't report it. I was burning a set of WBL AS4.0 CDs (not DVD), with
2.6.12ck4. I was doing the read check of the md5sum after burn, and got
an i/o error. I repeated this several times, and now have three CDs I
can't read.
I tried one in another machine and it read fine (2.4.19verypatched). I
tried it on my laptop, and two machines at home. All read it. I booted
2.6.7rc1mm1nd (patched 2.6.7 I have been using) and the same CD now
reads in both the fast USB CD-RW and the built in CD reader. Same Cd,
same machine. Now up on 2.6.13rc5git1 and can't read it.
It behaves as if the read fails depending on the data read, hard as that
is to understand with DMA devices and no bounce buffers.
I wouldn't mention this until I had more info, but it seems possibly
related.
