I took Jeff's suggestion and left the (CONFIG_IDE) in the kernel as well as
(CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PIIX) (see .config below). When the system comes up, I do
indeed have two drives as hda and hdb on ide0 and two drives as sda and sdb.
What I cannot resolve is that ide0 is using the Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE
driver and not the piix/ICH driver. It does not identify ide0 as being
ICH5-R. I have included the dmesg and lspci below.

The kernel version is 2.6.12-rc2-mm3 and I get the same behaviour under
2.6.12. I have tried 2.6.13-rc3 and 2.6.13-rc3-mm1 but both of those reboot
the system immediately upon it coming up, but watching the console messages
I can see that those kernels use the non-piix driver also.

The motherboard is an Intel SE7520BD2 with two PATA drives and 2 SATA
drives. On a side note, the second NIC on this motherboard is a Marvell GigE
adapter. I could not get it to work with the sk98lin or skge driver in the
kernel source, but when I patched the kernel with the driver source from the
chipset manufacturer, SysKonnect, it worked fine. That patch is at
http://www.syskonnect.de/syskonnect/support/driver/d0102_driver.html.

If there is any info I have left out, please let me know. I will have one of
these boards available for quite a while to do any testing that anyone
needs.

Thanks!
David Lewis
