OK, I just got a new laptop with ati card. Radeon is good except for I can't give gnome-shell a try.

I don't think that the fglrx driver ever worked for me on F12 (maybe F11
either).  Fortunately the radeon has been working well enough for me on
those releases (and F14 too) that I don't need the fglrx driver any
more.  If your hardware is more up-to-date than mine, you might look at
the newer catalyst driver from AMD/ATI.  If your card isn't supported by
the catalyst driver, seriously consider giving the radeon driver a try.
 It should come "stock" on F13.
