That generated a syntax error.
I modified it to
maitra    ALL=(ALL)      
NOPASSWD:/usr/sbin/pm-hibernate,/usr/sbin/pm-suspend , PASSWD:ALL

i.e., removed the space after the colon
and that took care of it.
