Which would be the point of using dump & restore.  Giving you the
ability "restore" what you had, moments ago.  A rather large "undo".

Which is a very different thing than merging two very different things
(bits of old installations into a *new* OS installation).  That isn't a
"restoration," so I wouldn't expect restoring tools to be the best tools
for the job.
