You might try rebuilding the index for the particular message file.
Close Thunderbird (and after backing up the .thunderbird directory tree),

cd ~/.thunderbird
cd <yourprofiledirectory>
cd Mail
cd <the problem mail account>
rm *.msf

Restart Thunderbird
