f12 ati R480 agp dri not working

I guess my DRI is broken in some way.

The display is washed out and I get only 1.5 fps with glxgears. Any ideas on what the problem could be or other commands I could run to narrow it down?

I know things are changing rapidly for the older ATI chipsets so is it just a matter of "we know and are working the issues"?

Thanks,
John
