  aha!  how interesting, given that this must have built *once* for a
binary guile-1.8.7 rpm to be available to yum, but something *else* on
the system must have now changed to make this non-buildable.

  i'm open to suggestions and enlightenment.   it's weird how some
people can build it fine, and others can't.  once again:
