Argh.

My problem was similar. Apparently I wasn't paying very close attention
to what I was doing when I initially edited /etc/idmapd.conf on the
server; because it said:

        Domain = hinge.endoframe.net

Changing this to "endoframe.net" solved my problem.

Sigh.

Thank you very much for your help troubleshooting this.
