But what is troubling you is that you are expecting the KDE Desktop to
remain a functional area where you can interact with files and that is
not the case. That's why I recommended the 'folder view' widget which
will give you limited functionality for this.

It's apparent that the KDE developers intend that they believe that the
Desktop is for widgets, applications, view space and not for file
storage.

i was able to drag 'n' drop a folder from dolphin to the desktop, as either icon or 'folder view',
but am at a loss as to why folders and files created in konqueror, konsole or dolphin browsing
the desktop do not produce icons on the screen.
