Great site, but doesn't seem to address the problem.

Have you tried Kino? It's a KDE app, but it works in GNOME and I"ve successfully used it to pull raw video data from a Sony camcorder via USB. It's slower than the firewire connection on my laptop, but it still works pretty well.

Just back in town after a week out of state w/ no net connection (and little cell coverage). I am relaxed but busy, and will try some of this later this week. I would like the importing software to break the various recorded sessions into separate files, all else is easy.

I'll let you know.
