I gave an example to that the other day, in a reply to Gene, I think.

In a nutshell, more than one sound playable at a time (e.g. some alert
while you're listening to your music) without one messing up the other.
And the ability to control the volume of each completely independent of
the other.

Of course if it worked painlessly, you'd get such benefits without
noticing it.
