Right now I've switched out the hard drive with SLED SP2 and have
configured the new drive to run F8. When I have a chance to put the SLED
drive back, I'll check but if memory serves, I was not able to find an
xorg.conf file when using SLED.

I just booted up the Ubuntu 8.04 Live CD. I had to use safe graphics
mode to get a display (the default boot gives the same problem - weird
blank sort of display - as F9). Default Ubuntu is using the openchrome
driver. In safe mode, I am able to get a 1280x720 display (F8 will only
give me 1024x768). Not sure why.
